Robotics has been receiving a great deal of attention recently. Unfortunately, there's still a large gap between Hollywood and Madison Avenue portrayals of robots and what's possible today. This talk will provide a realistic view of what is currently possible both with respect to hardware and software, which robots are commercially viable, and which industries stand to benefit first. The good news for developers is that the robotic community is a strong adopter of open source technologies, and many state of the art techniques are available as open source projects.
